Uwharrie National ForestThe Uwharrie National Forest was first purchased by the federal government in 1931 during the Great Depression. The land was known as the Uwharrie Reservation.

In 1961, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed these federal lands in Montgomery, Randolph, and Davidson Counties the Uwharrie National Forest. It is one of the most recently formed in the National Forest System.

Though small, at only 50,189 acres, the Uwharrie provides a variety of natural resources, including clean rivers and streams, diverse vegetation for scenery, wildlife habitat and wood products. There is also a wide variety of recreational activities, and the Forest is a natural setting for tourism and economic development.

Badin Lake is one of the largest bodies of water included in the series of reservoirs within the Yadkin- PeeDee River drainage system. The entire watershed is known as the Uwharrie Lakes Region.

Badin Lake is a popular setting for many different recreation activities, including camping, hiking, fishing, boating, and hunting. The area is rich game land for deer and wild turkey, and a home for bald eagles. Visitors to the Forest can also enjoy other Piedmont attractions, including Town Creek Indian Mound, North Carolina Zoological Park, Reeds Gold Mine, and pottery shopping in the Seagrove area.

Alcoa Power Generating Inc.'s Yadkin DivisionFor nearly a century, stewardship of the renewable resources of the Yadkin River watershed has been an integral part of Alcoa's presence in the region. As a licensee of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Yadkin Division of Alcoa Power Generating Inc. is responsible for operating the Yadkin Project for purposes of hydroelectric generation as well as providing adequate public access and public recreation facilities and protecting important natural, environmental, cultural, and scenic resources. The North Carolina Zoological Park, with more than 500 acres in its African and North American continental regions, is a place of wonder and discovery. It is the country's largest and finest walk-through, natural-habitat zoo. This means that the animals and plants in its exhibits are seen in settings that closely resemble the habitats in which they live in the wild. The 37-acre African Plains exhibit alone is as large as many entire zoos. Only 25 miles from Uwharrie Point.

The North Carolina Pottery Center includes permanent and changing exhibits on the history and ongoing tradition of North Carolina pottery, activities, and map and information services to the potteries of the Seagrove area and across the State. 45 minutes away

"Where the legacy lives on..."

Rolling hillsides, grazing cattle, tobacco barns, old mills, a covered bridge, quaint clapboard churches, and pots ... lots and lots of pots, this is Seagrove, North Carolina. Our claim to fame is our 200 year old plus history as a pottery making community. This all began as a result of abundant raw materials, and the town's proximity to "Plank Road", which ran from Cross Creek to Salem (now Fayetteville and Winston-Salem). The old wooden planks are long gone, and although it may sometimes appear otherwise, time has not stood still in "pottery country".

Seagrove
is now home to over 80 potteries, where you can find everything from simple cups and bowls for daily use, to museum quality works of art, and everything in between. .
